Performance against national waiting time standards - October 2023
We continue to perform well compared to the rest of the NHS but are still some way off meeting the
national standards.
• Our ED performance in October was 73.71%. We were above the national average (70.2%). We were
the 5th best performing Trust in the region in October. We had one 12-hour trolley wait this was for a
patient with complex health needs.
• In October, 75.01% of patients were treated within 18 weeks. This was slightly more than September.
STSFT remains above the national and regional average and third best in the region.
• The number of patients waiting over six weeks for a diagnostic test remained similar to last month at
15.81%.
• In cancer care, the Trust achieved both the 28 day faster diagnosis standard and the 31 day treatment
standard. Our performance against the 62 day standard reduced slightly in September however we are
above the regional and national performance levels.

There was one Never Event in September regarding the fitting of an incorrect intrauterine device.
The patient was content with the device used and no harm was caused.
There was one Never Event declared in October, regarding a suture needle which had been left in a
patient's arm following surgery. We are investigating both cases to make sure we learn from these.
