In October, we were behind our financial plan. This means we have spent more than what we planned to
spend at this point in the year. The reason we are behind plan is because we haven't delivered as much elective
activity as we thought we would. It means there is a risk that we won't get some Elective Recovery Funding
(ERF) that we thought we would. This is partly due to all of the Industrial Action that has been taking place. You
may have heard on the national news that the NHS will be getting more funding to help cover the costs of the
Industrial Action. We will be able to report next time on what this means for us a STSFT.
We still have a big financial challenge for the year ahead. This means we need to be careful with every penny we
spend. By the end of the year our plan is still to break even. This means we will spend the same amount of money
we receive. To do this, we have lots of cost improvement plans. We will need everyone's help to achieve these.
At end of October 2023
Plan = £3.050 million deficit
Actual = £6.387 million deficit
£3.337 million behind our plan.

Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)ti Factor Authentication (MFA)
SEI ground-breaking
All staff must register to use Multi Factor
Authentication (MFA) on their NHSmail account
in order to continue to access their email.
You might have used MFA before for things like
internet banking, online shopping and even
Facebook.
When requested, you will need to set up one of a
number of extra forms of authentication. Like setting
up an authentication app on your mobile phone,
registering to receive a passcode via text message, or
registering your NHS Smartcard (for those that have
them). Other options are also available for those that
can't use these methods.
Thousands of our colleagues have already registered
and are successfully using MFA to access their
NHSmail accounts - thank you to those that have
already registered.
The IT department is in the process of contacting
staff, inviting them to enroll in the MFA system. Once
staff have been enrolled they will be prompted to
setup MFA the next time they log in to NHSMail.
Please look out for an email asking you to take
action. Alternatively, you can enroll and register
yourself.

This month we celebrated the breaking of
ground on our new specialist eye hospital in
Sunderland.
The new eye hospital will replace the existing
Sunderland Eye Infirmary on Queen Alexandra Road.
All clinical services at Sunderland Eye Infirmary will
move to the new city centre location, including
the Regional Cataract Treatment Centre which will
continue to play a pivotal role in helping to reduce
waiting lists across the region.
Construction is expected to take two years. Click
here to see a flythrough video of how the new Eye
Hospital will look.
We're looking forward to seeing the building work
progress and seeing the plans become a reality.
