Last month we met Jacqueline Burr, Information Assistant, at Palmer Hospital. She talked to us
about telling her manager about her disability and the support she was given with reasonable
adjustment equipment and flexibility. To her Jacqueline talk about her experiences click on the
video below. You can disclose your disability on ESR and by having a confidential discussion
about the adjustments you might need with your manager. Our reasonable adjustment guide is
available to read here.
We also heard about Nessa Greenwood going above and beyond whilst off duty. Nessa, a B20
deputy ward manager, who is also one of the internationally recruited nurses from the
Philippines and joined the Trust in 2009, was out at the Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland
with her friends. She never expected to end up helping a lady who had suddenly collapsed, fell
face down, and started to bleed. Nessa attended to the emergency situation and provided
emergency help to the elderly lady until the paramedics arrived.
She never imagined her normal days off at work would become as eventful as this, but she will
do it again if needed.
Neesa said, "My profession as a nurse does not stop when I am on leave. I am proud I was
able to help the lady during that emergency situation."
