What is Disability History Month?
UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) is an annual event creating a platform to focus
on the history of our struggle for equality and human rights. 2024 will be the
fourteenth year and there has been a steady increase in interest and activity since
UKDHM began in 2010.
2024: Disability, Livelihood and Employment
The focus of UKDHM for 2024 is on Disability, Livelihood and Employment. Since
2013, up to the start of the pandemic (March 2020) the general trend in disability
employment was positive. There had been strong growth in the number and rate of
disabled people in employment and a narrowing of the gap between the rate of
disabled and non-disabled people in employment (the disability employment gap).
DID YOU KNOW?
The UKDHM Logo is based on the
black triangle that Disabled people
were forced to wear by the Nazis.
The movement has taken this
symbol, in order to reclaim history for
Disabled people and in doing so has
inverted it.
