This would be classed as stage 2 escalation:
If the issue cannot be resolved via stage 1 process, both
professionals should inform their line manager and seek advice from
the safeguarding team on the same day.
The safeguarding nurse where necessary should seek advice from
the Named Nurses/Midwife or from the Assistant Director of
Safeguarding if needed.
There have been many cases where the Safeguarding Team have
supported staff in situations where disagreements and challenge
have not been solved within stage 1. Examples include:
• Supporting staff in documenting and challenging decisions verbally
or in writing
• Liaising with line managers from other agencies
• Attending meetings where there have been more complex issues or
support is needed when there have been disagreements
