What is abuse?
Abuse is the violation
of an individuals
human and civil rights
by any other person
or persons.
It is action that hurts,
harms or causes
distress to an individual
(either intentionally or
unintentionally)
Any Adult that meets the Adult at
risk criteria can be considered to be
at risk of harm or abuse, regardless
of age, ethnicity, gender or religion.
Having a knowledge and an
understanding around these
characteristics and how they may
impact safeguarding concerns, can
help staff respond appropriately.
Abuse can be committed by
a person or persons in
single or repeated acts,
indirectly or directly
