Dealing with the disclosure
• Don't confront the alleged perpetrator/Source of Harm
• Tell the person you have to report it.
• Don't promise to keep secrets, as you may need to share the information
• Show concern but try not to appear shocked, horrified, disgusted or angry
• Stay calm, listen patiently and treat the information seriously, reassure them
they will be involved in any decision-making - remember MSP.
• Reassure the person disclosing that they are doing the right thing
• Use the TED Technique - Tell, Explain, Describe…
• You should make a record of what you were told using the adults actual
words
Remember evidence may be needed, so ask for advice.
