Safeguarding Adult Referral
• A safeguarding adult referral should always be submitted to the LA area
where the abuse occurred. This differs from a children's safeguarding
referral as this is always sent to the LA area where the child resides.
• Once the LA have received your referral they will look at the person to
determine if they meet the 'adult at risk' criteria, then at the type of abuse
they are subject to.
• Fact finding and information gathering commences - Most authorities will
allow 72 hours for initial investigations to be completed before
determining response level to the case.
• Within this time frame they will attempt to speak to the person being
abused, or their advocate, to determine what their desired outcome would
be (MSP), what are their views and wishes and to seek their consent.
