People in a Position of Trust (PIPOT) and
Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
People in a Position of Trust, also known as PIPOT, is a
person who holds a position required to have direct contact
with an adult or child and due to the nature of their role they
are in position to exercise authority, power and control over
them.
PIPOT examples include people working for, or on behalf of
Health Services, Social Care, the Police, Criminal Justice
System and Education and include employees, volunteers
and students.
If there is concern that a PIPOT may, in the course of their
work, pose a risk to a child or young person under the age
of 18 years, then the LADO should be notified and Trust staff
must take actions as per LADO process
