What Factors can Increase Abuse?
• Living with a known abuser.
• Family history of abuse / conflict.
• Financial problems/ Money Management.
• Adults at risk and workers are not valued
• Limited staff resource
• Lack of supervision, appraisal or access to safeguarding training.
• Isolation of both victim and worker
• There are poor systems of recording in place
• Family members experiencing other trauma.
• No complaints procedure or whistle blowing policy in place.
• Communication breakdown/problems.
• Lifestyle changes.
• Environmental factors: lack of privacy or space.
Learning from a recent Domestic Homicide Review (DHR) indicates that the
risk can increase when confronting a family member with previous unknown
behaviours.
